The LinkedIn Bio
Jim earned his Masters at Newhouse School of Communications, at Syracuse University in 1972. After working as a copywriter at Wilson, Haight & Welch in Hartford he founded Decker in 1977. Decker immediately produced results and awards in all consumer and BTB categories. His fondest advertising memory is being taught how to break in a new baseball glove by Carl Yastrzemski, so he could write a hangtag to spur retail sales, which it did. Jim's role is now coach and sounding board for Decker’s current generation of creative stars.
The Fun Stuff
I enjoy being a snowbird, working remote in Florida as much of winter as possible. I immensely enjoyed writing a book and several songs. My other passion is baseball. Following an unspectacular college pitching career (Colgate), I have taken to throwing batting practice, where you’re supposed to hit the bat. I toss for high schoolers in Florida and in summer, for the acclaimed Cape Cod Baseball League. I also handle communications and marketing for the
CCBL’s Brewster Whitecaps.
